Glenfiddich has launched the fifth edition of its Experimental Series — the Orchard Experiment — which innovatively uses fortified apple brandy casks (also known as apple liqueur casks) for finishing. This whisky is initially matured in American oak barrels before being transferred to fortified apple brandy casks for approximately 4 to 6 months. Bottled at 43% ABV, while other brands may have experimented with apple cask finishes, Glenfiddich’s use of sweet fortified apple brandy casks is truly unique worldwide.
The Orchard Experiment’s label features a vibrant, fresh green color, with packaging accented by the red of ripe apples. The finishing casks come from the Somerset Pomona barrels crafted by the British distillery Somerset Cider Brandy.
